SUMMARY:Wolli Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:Wolli Wildflower Walk – Sunday 27 September 2026\, from 8.45 am \nEver wondered what that lovely flowering plant was that you saw on your walk through the Wolli Valley – or another Sydney bushland area? Then come along to this leisurely and (plant) informative walk from Girrahween Park to Turrella Reserve on Sunday 27 September. This will be an introductory walk.\nNo prior botanic knowledge is needed\, and a brief introduction to some simple botanical concepts will be provided prior to setting off on the walk. \nWe will be starting at 8.45 am and finishing around 11/11.30 am. It’s a one way walk\, but Turrella railway station is close to the end of the walk. This walk is free for members of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society and bookings are required. If you are not currently a member\, your ticket fee covers the cost of membership to the WCPS. \nRegistration is essential. SUMMARY:Wolli Creek Eco Paddle
DESCRIPTION:The Wolli Creek Preservation Society is partnering with the River Canoe Club of NSW (RCC) to run our popular Wolli Creek Eco Paddle on Sunday 27 September from 9.30am to 12.30 pm. The paddle will start from the RCC clubhouse\, Richardson Crescent\, Marrickville\, and finish with light refreshments back at the clubhouse. \nWe will  provide paddle guidance\, and all the gear including canoes and life jackets. The Wolli Creek Preservation Society will provide an informative guided tour. You will get a very different view of the Wolli Creek Valley from creek level whilst learning about local wildlife\, history and the environment. The tour is also a great chance to get a gentle and short introduction to paddling as we cater for beginners. \nPaddlers on this tour need to be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres and tread water for at least 2 minutes. This is to ensure that in the very unlikely event that a paddler slips or falls into the water that they are able to swim to safety. \nTicket price is $75 per person (which includes single event Paddle Aust.insurance cover) Young people from 10 – 17 years are welcome if accompanied by an adult. \nTo book you will need to register with and pay via the Paddle Australia . This is for insurance purposes as part of your payment will go towards this cost. DESCRIPTION:WCPS Annual Dinner –\nFlying Fox Ecology\, Conservation and Management – Matthew Mo\nJoin us for our annual dinner on Thursday 15 October at 6.30pm. \nOur guest speaker this year is Matthew Mo who is a senior threatened species officer with the New South Wales Department of Climate Change\, Energy\, the Environment and Water\, primarily working on flying-fox conservation and management. \nHis topic is Flying Fox Ecology\, Conservation and Management \nConserving flying-foxes and addressing human flying-fox conflicts is hugely complex. The grey-headed flying-fox\, in particular\, is listed as a vulnerable species and faces several threats. Ultimately making a difference is going to require a huge number of stakeholders\, including the Wolli Creek Preservation Society\, continuing to contribute to flying-fox conservation and management. This presentation will take you on a refresher on flying-fox ecology and explore what’s currently happening\, including the National Flying-fox Monitoring Program\, research projects and initiatives to improve how the general public perceive flying-foxes. \nCome and support the Wolli Creek Preservation Society and participate in\n– our fun Trivia Quizz \n– raffles and a silent auction. \nDon’t forget to bring your cash to purchase raffle tickets as we have limited card facilities. \nBook your ticket now. For catering purposes bookings for this event will close on Sunday 4 October. If you miss the closing date please email info@wollicreek.org.au to see if you can book direct. \nThe dinner is buffet style and will cater for vegetarians and gluten free diets. SUMMARY:Walk in the Wolli Creek Regional Park from Bardwell Park to Tempe
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to find out more about the Wolli Creek Valley Walking Track? This will be a leisurely Saturday morning bush walk from Bardwell Park to Tempe along the Wolli Creek Valley Walking Track. We will be starting at 9am sharp. This is a 3.5km walk designed for those who would like to see the Wolli Creek Valley at a leisurely pace. \nThe walk is almost entirely on unmade and uneven surfaces but is mostly level walking tracks although some areas may be eroded and/or be crossed by tree roots and require extra care to be taken. There are some minor ascents and descents\, particularly the rocky ways up and down Nannygoat Hill but this is optional. You need to wear good walking boots or shoes\, with a good gripping sole – sandals and thongs are absolutely not good enough. \nYour walk leaders are volunteers with the Wolli Creek Preservation Society (WCPS). They will share their knowledge of this bushland\, its cultural and environmental history\, as well as information about the current issues facing the Wolli Valley and the bush regeneration (Bushcare) work the Society is undertaking. \nThis walk is free for members of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society\, and bookings are required.
