Bookings are now open for the 34th Annual Dinner to be held at the Bardwell Valley Golf Club, 2A Hillcrest Ave, Bardwell Park, on Thursday 19th October. Dai Romani are the new caterers for this club (ex-Marrickville Golf Club). From 6:30pm enjoy some refreshments at sunset overlooking Bardwell Valley followed by dinner and guest speaker. (Bar opens at 6:30pm).
Our guest speaker will be Peter Ridgeway who is a conservation ecologist who works with Aboriginal communities, farmers, community and government to conserve and restore the Cumberland Plain as both a human and natural landscape. You may know his book “A Wide and Open Land” about walking the Cumberland Plain through the last of Western Sydney’s Woodlands, a great read.
Made by Nature : How Sydney’s wild landscapes made us
Sydney is a diverse city – a crucible of cultures within a jumble of geologies and ecosystems. Too often we see these human and natural worlds as independent. But the wild has always entangled the people of our region, from Aboriginal communities to colonial settlement and even today. Much of what we consider our cultural history has surprising roots in the geography, geology, and ecology of our natural landscapes. We will explore a wide range of topics, from the origin of our towns and cities to the deep questions such as ‘Why do Westies have an accent?’ and see how our cultural world originates from the remarkable and often bizarre natural world of the Sydney basin.
There will also be multi-prize raffle, a silent auction and a quiz. Don’t forget to bring your cash to purchase raffle tickets as we have limited card facilities. Any donations for the raffle would be appreciated, eg bottles of wine, chocolates, any indulgence really, home-made or home- grown items, seedlings or handmade craft items. Please contact us at info@wollicreek.org.au.
The dinner will start from 6:30 pm onwards, with drinks available from the cash bar. Vegetarians are catered for in the menu but please let us know when booking if you require vegan or gluten free.
For bookings (and payment) there are two main options:
• Direct deposit: WCPS Inc, BSB 032 067 (Westpac), a/c no 288295. The cost is $70. Please make sure you include your surname and ‘ADin’ as identifier, and also please send an email to info@wollicreek.org.au so that we are alerted to the deposit. Please include the names of those attending and if a gluten free or vegan meal is required.
Please book early to secure your seat!
This year WCPS turned 40 years old. Please come along and help us celebrate. We are looking forward to another great evening with our members.
