Come and be ‘Inspired by Wolli’ on National Tree Day, Sunday, July 28 2013

Come and be “Inspired by Wolli” through creative events and activities in a vital part of the Wolli Creek Regional Park. Come and enjoy the great bushland of the Park’s Western Gateway (at Bexley North) while we can. This area is threatened with destruction by the M5E/Westconnex project, and test drilling could begin at any time. We know that retention of existing bushland is even more important than planting new trees, so come and show your support for this bushland which contains substantial trees (both size and number).

An easy ten-minute walk will acquaint you with this great bushland. Try your hand at sketching or photographing the trees, and get tips from experts in photography (Philip LeMasurier, Peter Solness and Jenny Templin) and drawing (Meegan Parkee and others), who will be on hand. Identify some birds and plants (we’ll make it easy), count the trees, hang a ‘thank you’ decoration along the track, hear a cellist (Bronwen Whyatt).

Join us afterwards at Illoura Reserve/Park for refreshments, entertainment from a jazz combo (Jazzouch), kids activities, and information and a chat about the Society and our campaign to save this two-hectare stretch of bushland. Bring a picnic and stay a little longer (groundsheets provided, but BYOPicnic)

Please wear clothing appropriate for a ten-minute walk in bushland (especially covered shoes).

Directions: Meet at the junction of Bexley Rd and the bitumen footpath leading up to Johnston St (close to the Bexley Road crossing of the creek); about 3 minute walk from Bexley North railway station. (Parking also available next to the station, in Johnston St. or Forrest Ave)
