‘Tree-mendous Wolli’ Sunday 20th July – in the lead up to National Tree Day (on the 27th July), come along for a short bushwalk and activities relating to our campaign to preserve the trees and other bushland plants and animals at the western end of the Wolli Valley
Recent announcements by Federal and State Government have meant that the great bushland at the western (Bexley North) end of the Wolli Valley, is under dire threat from the M5E/Westconnex project. Test drilling could begin at any time.
We know that retention of existing bushland is even more important than planting new trees, so come and show your support for this great bushland which contains substantial beautiful trees, orchids, ferns and wildflowers.
Sunday, 20 July 2014 , from 10.00am to 1.30’ish’
An easy ten-minute walk will acquaint you with this great bushland, where you will find as you walk within it on the day, art installations, musicians, artists and bush regenerators at work and play.
Copy and bring your favourite poem about nature, and/or a protest note about the destruction of bushland to hang along our ‘ribbon of protest’
Join us afterwards at Illoura Reserve/Park for refreshments, more music, kids activities, and information and a chat about the Society and the NoWestconnex campaign to save not only this two-hectare stretch of bushland, but other parts of Sydney from an ill conceived motorway project. Register for our National Tree Day planting at Illoura Reserve on Sunday 27th July.
Bring a picnic and stay a little longer (groundsheets available, but BYO Picnic)
Please wear clothing appropriate for a ten-minute walk in bushland (especially covered shoes).
