Upcoming Kayak trip – Wolli from creek to crest, Saturday 31st March, 2018 – Note: trip now booked out

Join us on one of our popular kayak trips – ‘Wolli from Creek to Crest’ on Saturday 31st March, 2018

Our kayak trips are run in partnership with the NSW River Canoe Club, whose club house is by the Cooks River at Tempe, close to Tempe station.

Cost is $50 per person (this includes a light lunch, hire of kayaks or canoes, and commentary).

Starting time will be 7.05 am for this trip (we need to have a good high tide, so starting times vary for each trip, and this one is an early start).  The whole event takes about 4 hours all up. It includes an introduction to kayaking for beginners, historical and environmental commentary on and from the creek, a tour of Turrella Reserve and its various environmental assets and issues, a look at the Grey-headed Flying-fox camp, a walk up Nannygoat Hill for a great view, plus a light lunch at the end of the trip, back at the club house.  The trip gives you a quite different and surprising view of Wolli creek. Clean Up Australia Day – Sunday 4th March, 2018; 9 am to approx 12 noon

This year we will be working to clear up litter from Paperbark Creek in Bray Avenue, Earlwood.

Lots of rubbish gets washed from the road into the creek via the storm-water drain. This area is looking beautiful with all the bushcare work carried out, and we want to complement that hard work by removing the rubbish from along the small creek.

Meeting Place : Close to the TVT (Two Valley Trail) sign post, on the grassy area in Bray Ave, just across from Richards Ave in Earlwood;  9 am sharp.

What you need to bring:  Sturdy covered shoes (please, no sandals or thongs); clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dirty (long sleeves are good); gardening gloves if you have them; a hat and sunscreen; and water if it’s a hot day.  Morning tea will be provided.

Children of school age and older are welcome to help, provided they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Registration:    It is essential to register, and preferably before the day as it helps us with morning tea provision.

Insurance:
All registered and approved Clean Up Australia Day Sites are covered by Clean Up Australia’s Public Liability Insurance. Clean Up Australia does not provide Personal Accident or Injury Cover.

Bat Watch Picnic – Friday 2nd March, 2018, Turrella Reserve, Earlwood

Join us for our annual Bat Watch Picnic held during Australasian Bat Month ausbats.org.au/australasian-bat-night/4581984807

This is a great family event, and an opportunity to see one of the great ‘urban David Attenborough moments’, as thousands of Grey-headed Flying-foxes stream out from their roosting camp beside Wolli creek. Learn more about these fascinating native mammals.

Where: Turrella Reserve, Earlwood

When:  Friday 2nd March, 2018; craft activities start from 6.30 pm, until dark (approx. 8 pm)

BYO picnic, rug, chair, insect repellent.
