Celebrating Volunteers

Long-time local Federal Member for Barton Linda Burney held a morning tea and awards ceremony today to celebrate local volunteers. The event was held at the Kogarah Storehouse Hall and attended by about 100 people, representing 15 local volunteer organisations. Committee member Julie Deady and Unwin Green Street campaigner Lydia Feng attended on behalf of WCPS and received a Certificate from Linda “In Recognition of All Your Volunteers’ Valuable Contributions to our Community.” Linda Burney has long been a passionate supporter of our Society.

Jack Mundey Award goes to….

Canterbury-Bankstown Council has instituted an annual Jack Mundey Environment and Heritage Award and the inaugural recipient was the Society’s own Peter Stevens. He says that it was really an award to the Society and the numerous people over several decades who have brought the Wolli Creek Regional Park into existence and near to completion, saving the natural heritage of the Wolli Valley.

Neil Rankin Award

Calling for nominations for the Neil Rankin Award to be given in recognition of the excellent work done over the past two years to foster children’s enjoyment and understanding of the natural world.  A  school, a class or an individual may be nominated for this award.  For information and entry forms please contact info@wollicreek.org.au, nominations close 31 August 2013.

Our treasurer wins Westpac community treasurers award

Peter Stevens, the treasurer of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society, has won the 2011 Westpac Community Treasurers Award in the small organisations category.

We honour Peter’s tremendous contribution to the work of the Society and congratulate him on this well deserved award.
