Join us on one of our popular kayak trips – Wolli from Creek to Crest.
We have coming up on Saturday September 21 and Sunday October 20, two of our very popular kayak trips up Wolli Creek with the River Canoe Club kayaks. Cost $40 per trip (includes a light lunch).
The whole event, which includes an intro to kayaking for beginners, a tour of Turrella Reserve developments and issues, a walk up Nannygoat Hill, plus light food, takes about four to four and a half hours and shows an unusual aspect of Wolli. Starting time should be around 9 am on both occasions.
Book early to avoid disappointment.

Speaker: Marion Anstis
Location: Canterbury and Earlwood Caring Association (CECAL) 15 Clarke Street, Earlwood (entry Lewins St).
Marion Anstis has had a lifetime career as a high-school music teacher while pursuing her passion for frogs and tadpoles in her spare time. Since retirement, she has written three books on frogs and tadpoles and several scientific papers, culminating in her latest publication ‘Tadpoles and Frogs of Australia’, in which she lays out profiles of every Australian frog and the life histories (eggs and tadpoles) of most of them to help conservationists identify which tadpole/egg belongs to which frog. She has also written a book for children which has been very well received.
Marion helps with raising public awareness about frogs through her association with the Frog and Tadpole Study Group where she goes on field trips and gives talks at meetings and in the community.

Come and be “Inspired by Wolli” through creative events and activities in a vital part of the Wolli Creek Regional Park. Come and enjoy the great bushland of the Park’s Western Gateway (at Bexley North) while we can. This area is threatened with destruction by the M5E/Westconnex project, and test drilling could begin at any time. We know that retention of existing bushland is even more important than planting new trees, so come and show your support for this bushland which contains substantial trees (both size and number).
An easy ten-minute walk will acquaint you with this great bushland. Try your hand at sketching or photographing the trees, and get tips from experts in photography (Philip LeMasurier, Peter Solness and Jenny Templin) and drawing (Meegan Parkee and others), who will be on hand. Identify some birds and plants (we’ll make it easy), count the trees, hang a ‘thank you’ decoration along the track, hear a cellist (Bronwen Whyatt).
Join us afterwards at Illoura Reserve/Park for refreshments, entertainment from a jazz combo (Jazzouch), kids activities, and information and a chat about the Society and our campaign to save this two-hectare stretch of bushland. Bring a picnic and stay a little longer (groundsheets provided, but BYOPicnic)
Please wear clothing appropriate for a ten-minute walk in bushland (especially covered shoes).
Directions: Meet at the junction of Bexley Rd and the bitumen footpath leading up to Johnston St (close to the Bexley Road crossing of the creek); about 3 minute walk from Bexley North railway station. (Parking also available next to the station, in Johnston St. or Forrest Ave)

Those attending will be able to see the extent of this important ecological community, see ‘before restoration’ photographs and samples of the key plants that grow there, as well as hear about the value of saltmarsh, and the threats facing it.
