Recently on a sunny, but not too hot spring morning, a group of WCPS members sketched and painted ‘en plein air’ beside Wolli Creek, down at the footbridge at Turrella Reserve. This first of the Society’s Art in Nature sessions was initiated and led by professional artist and WCPS member Miles Hale, who lives nearby in Turrella.

Some interesting sketches and paintings were produced in the 2 hour session, varying greatly in style. Some sketchers were new to drawing, some with experience under their belt. Miles set up his easel and painted the creek, while explaining his process to participants and demonstrating his technique. Miles’s technical tips and guidance gave participants good tips for drawing or painting outdoor objects and landscapes. Thanks for sharing your expertise, Miles.

This session was also preceded by an optional short walk in the wider Turrella Reserve area, where some of the environmental history of the location was shared. Why not join WCPS so you are in the loop for future Art in Nature sessions?
